This novel, which is inspired by the ideologic and the armed conflicts of our age, recreates the tense environment of a just invaded country. In an imprecise age; a country without a concrete setting and an anonymous army play the lead in a war, which could be in fact any war. It is about the drama of some conquerors who know they have been conquered, who can kill but not impose, who overwhelm in front of the infected hostility, the simulated submission, the underhanded resistence and finally; the liberating violence of a country which considers itself independent. The moon always appears again for all those countries which resist; tells us the author, with an epic writing which becomes impressive in its own simplicity. Steinbeck, Nobel Prize in literature in 1962, accepted the award after emphasizing the ineludible responsibility of the writer as a spokesman of injustices.
