The way ANV followed since it was founded on San Andrés day, in 1930 is the story of that effort to transform the concepts of the Basque nationalism in its whole and adapt them to those modern ideas which are far away from the myth, intransigence and clericalism. In its ideology, ANV gathers the aportation of a small quantity of Basque people who; as Xaho, tried that the Basque nationalism was something else than the JEL or “ living comfortable” in Spain. ANV renewed Arana´s nationalism, giving it an ideology related to the ruling behaviour based on the democratic rights, the dialogue as a political force, the self-determination right as the self-government most important purpose and its opening towards those who recognise the Basque fact. Having to suffer too many pressures, ANV became strong in a left-wing nationalist ideological framework. It sacrified the best of its militance at the 1936 war against fascism and kept the freedom hope and the social justice during its long exile.
