My brother is the second book of the family trilogy which Kinkaid started with My mother´s autobiography and which is finished with a portrait of his father in Mr. Potter. This great authoress´magnificent prose is this time in the service of the narration of a real experience: the death of one of his brothers, who suffered from AIDS. It is a tough reading which shows a moving story without complex flashes of tenderness and without falling in sentimentality. This story examines the lack of communication of family relationships in depth and shows different feelings before death in an impressive way.
