Basque people and the republic. Basque people and the Spanish Republic is the result of a near approach to the civil war history, which was lived with great protagonism since its beginning by the author. He was a direct witness of the coup phases in San Sebastian and the republican defeat in the lands in Catalonia. This historical work, based on documentation – unknown at that time- and a great memory exercise is also an exemplary specimen of Andrés de Irujo´s deep humanist conception and a conclusive declaration in defence of the justice ideals; so difficult to keep in open conflict. It was written when the wounds produced by the civil war were still recent, although there was a look of hope towards a near return to the Basque Country.
