The oak and the silk-cotton tree. There is a long relationship and a certain look of conspiracy between Cubans and Basque people. Perhaps because both of them, in their own way are towns-island; tenacious in keeping themselves alive and honourable: before against colonialism; now against a global uniformism which demands them the end of their particular political and cultural rebelliousness. Basque people took part in the Cuban independence, refusing to be recruited and they suffered from the same military officers and tactics in their own country, which they put into practice on the island later. The independence in Cuba increased the Basque affection and; why not, its hope. The next Revolution always had the respectful and absolute support of the whole Basque Country. This book is another hug between two brother peoples. Its pages show two parallel and mixed stories, which seem to be looking for a same future; planetary but different, archipelago of united and solidary islands.
