Losing is a matter of method. “I lost. I have always lost. It does not distress me; it does not worry me, losing is a matter of method”. The sentences which Luis Sepulveda wrote once fill the loneliness of Silanpa´s flat. In Santiago Gamboa´s novel all the characters are losers: Silanpa; the journalist who is doing some research about the bodies which have been found in a small lake near Bogotá. Monika; the woman who fills the journalist´s life. The corrupt Esquilache, Barragan and Vargas Vicuña. Quica; the young prostitute who wants to be a singer. Moya; the naïve policewoman who lives in a fight against obesity. All of them are doomed to losing and however the story will trap the reader from the first line in a cruel way but he will feel happy when it finishes because it is better to lose given that losing is learning.
