Mina, the young boy. With a masterful historical report, Guzmán tells Xavier Mina Larrea´s life; the great Navarrese guerrilla fighter, from his childhood in Idocin village to his death in Mexico. It portraits Navarre´s life occupied by the French invaders; and the feat of a young student, who was able to form a popular army which aroused all his compatriots´hopes. After his capture by Napoleón, his resistance deed was successfully finished by his uncle Francisco Espoz and Mina. The novel goes on with the international intrigues which followed the independence war, the hero´s stay in England and his unfortunate return journey to his country. The Navarrese ´s longing for freedom and independence finished in Mexico, where he was executed by shooting when he was 28 years old and he became one of the pinnacle illustrious people of the nation. We may say that there are two things which inseparably join together Mexico and Navarre history: Mina the young boy´s character and Guzmán´s extraordinary novel.
