Antonio Arraiz (1903-1962). He was a Venezuelan writer, a journalist and a poet. In 1924, he showed himself off as a poet by means of his famous book of poems " Aspero" ( rough), which was dedicated to the following Indian headmen : Toro Sentado, Manco Capac, Moctezuma, Caupolicán and Hezahualcoyotl. He showed a clear opposition to the avant-garde poetry from that age. Arraiz did also exercised as a journalist in an active way and he was the editor of Ahora ( Now) newspaper in Caracas. Some years later, he would also become the foundation editor of El Nacional ( The National) newspaper ( 1943-1948). His work Puros hombres ( Pure men) marked a milestone in the Venezuelan novel and made him become one of the greatest men of letters in that country.
