Manlio Argueta

1935, San Miguel, El Salvador. He is the most famous writer in Salvador and took part together with Roque Dalton, Armijo and Quijada in the so called “ Generaciñn comprometida” group for having emphasized the social problem in literature. He lived in exile in Costa Rica for 20 years, was awarded the Ruben Darío Centro American Poetry Prize in 1965 for his book The side of the light. His work appears in different anthologies and he has been awarded many times: Novel Central American Prize ( Costa Rica,1969) for The Valley of the deck chairs; the first Latin American Novel Prize House of the Americas ( Cuba,1977) for Little Red Riding Hood in the Red Area. He has also published The Valley of the deck chairs, Cuzcatlan; where the South Sea beats, The Peace Miracle and Century of O(gr)o. One day in life has got a lot of different editions and has been translated into eleven languages. In 2005, it appeared in 5th position; being among the one hundred most known novels in Spanish in the 20th century. That same year, the German booksellers nominated Manlio Argueta for the Peace Prize.
