Fernando Alonso was born on 14th November, in Sestao. He studied journalism in Leioa, where he graduated in 1984. That same year, he went to Nicaragua, where he lived with the sandinists in Jinotega; one of the most conflicting areas at that moment. The articles and photographic reports which he carried out about the situation in that country were published in "Point and Hour", Deia and The country. In 1992, he started to work for EGIN, first in the research team and later in the Basque Country section until August 1996; date in which he was arrested by the Spanish civil guard in Hernani under the accusation of being a ETA member. Since then, he has been imprisoned in different prisons in Spain. Before this, he published a compilation of tales with Txalaparta; The dreams distributor.
