Julen Arzuaga Gumuzio was born in 1972. He studied Law Sciences, and he took a postgraduate course in Specialist in Human Rights in the UPV-EHU. He is nowadays doing a PhD in Administrative Law. He works as the lawyer of Basque political prisoners in extradition processes and he is also a coordinator of Behatokia (the Observatory of Human Rights of Euskal Herria), member of the Association of European Democratic Lawyers and delegate of the International Association Against Torture before the United Nations. He usually writes in the newspaper Gara, and he has published many articles in magazines and in books specialized in human rights’ topic; he is also the writer of these two reports published by Behatokia: Libertad de expresión, opinión y asociación en Euskal Herria and Legislación excepcional en Euskal Herria. He contributes to the annual reports of TAT (The Group Against Torture of Euskal Herria). He was one of the accused in the trial against Gestoras Pro Amnistia-Askatasuna and he was finally acquitted; he promotes dynamics in defence of civil and political rights such as the 18/98+ platform and Adierazi EH.
