Marie José Basurco was born in San Juan de Luz in 1947. She is the author of L'exilée (1997), a novel which heard clear success, as well as the writer of several short stories collected in two books: Nouvelles d'ici (1987) and Retour d'exil (1997), for which she received the first prize of the Cultural Center of the Basque Country (1986), the First Prize of the City of Bayonne (1987), the First Prize of the edition L'oeil Sauvage (1994) and the Silver Pen of the Nouveaux Cahiers de l'Adour (1994 ).
